Why Generations Conference?

Hi everyone, I am SO excited about building the church. I truly believe that like many famous people in the bible, a true encounter with God causes you to be a builder of the house of God. Jacob had an encounter and saw angels going up and down the “stairway to heaven” and when he woke up he said “Surely the Lord is in this place” He sets up an altar and calls that place “Bethel”(which means the house of God) and for generations the son’s of Jacob (Israel) go to “Bethel” to worship.(Gen 28:16) Moses has an encounter with God at the burning bush and on the mountain God gave to Moses the exact detailed instructions to build the tabernacle in the wilderness (Ex 25:31). David, a worshipper, psalmist and king had such an AMAZING heart for God’s house that through his wealth he passed on an inheritance for his son Solomon to built the permanent structure called the temple (1 kings 6:1). People like Nehemiah gave there lives to rebuilt the temple. Jesus said “I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it” (Matt 16:18). And in the book of Acts the Church took on a new form again as the Church of Jesus Christ. the Apostle Paul, who had an experience with Jesus on the road to Damascus wrote many of the books of the new testament that framed the growth and life of the church and it’s leadership. He became a “Master builder” (1 Cor 3:9)of the Church. So, from a pile of stones, to a tent in the wilderness, to a temple, to the Church of Jesus Christ, the entire bible is about building HIM a HOUSE and making a place where God’s presence can reach to everyone. It is the place where we can now come BOLDLY to his throne of Grace (Heb 10:19). I am excited and privileged to continue building what Jesus is building, and what Generations of God fearing people have always done. That’s why I am excited about “Generations Conference” Because together we are building something ancient and eternal that is effecting the world and changing millions of lives. The Church is “The hope of the world” and the pillar and foundation of truth (1 Tim 3:15), it is God’s home, a house for humanity and a place where mercy is in the middle of everything. I want to invite you to join me at Generations Conference 2010, April 7-10 to rediscover the Church and what we can do together to see our world Changed for His glory. No doubt, you will experience God and become a builder of HIS house!! For more information go to www.generationsconference.ca

Praise The LORD!!!

The 3 words you should NOT start your day with….”WHERE’S MY COFFEE!!! or “I am tired” or “MMMMM fruit loops.” (forget that last one, I am addicted to those multi-colored tasty loops) Any  words that cause us to grumble and complain about starting a new day should be thrown out the window. The first words we say should be “PRAISE THE LORD”!!!! So many of the great Psalms begin with this simple declaration “Praise The Lord” and so many end with the same statement “Praise The Lord”. When we start with praise and end with praise It doesn’t really matter what happens in between. God is good in it and through it all!!! The power of praise is that when we exalt our God he becomes so much bigger and our problems become insignificant compared to Him. I have found myself in this season Praising like never before!!! Even in my songwriting, there is nothing like singing the simple “Overused” words - Praise The LORD!!! I pray those words never get old for me - First thing in the morning, at night and all through the day! God bless you today                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                       Jachin

My Son Levi

My wife Becca and I are PRAISING GOD because our 5 year old Son Levi is now home with us!!! Two long weeks ago Levi was rushed to emergency with a swollen eye that was progressively getting worse by the minute. By the time Levi was admitted his eye was swollen shut and soon after the other eye began to swell up as well. We had no idea what was causing the problem and as parents we were VERY concerned yet we stood in faith and believed that Levi would be O.K. Over the next few days we found out that Levi had 2 large absesses behind both eyes. The doctors were very concerned that the infection would spread to other places in his body and they were very concerned for his sight. Obviously this was quite serious and potentially life threatening. After three days at the Red Deer Regional Hospital and a week at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, Levi is now home and recovering. I want to thank God for his mercy and grace in sparing my Son!!! I believe Levi has an incredible call of God on his life and will be a great blessing to the body of Christ. He is also my best bud and adds so much strength and life to Becca and I every day. I also want to thank the THOUSANDS of people from around the world who stood in faith with us through this difficult time. We have heard of some who called prayer meetings and stayed up all night praying for him. Thank you also for the phone calls and text messages that came from EVERYWHERE around the world. We were literally lifted through your care and prayers. Thank you!!! I know that it was the prayers of Gods people that made the difference. It is a SUCH a blessing to be part of the body of Christ!!! I also want to thank the doctors, nurses, support staff and hey……anyone that works at the hospitals for there incredible work. I praise God for you and thank you for all you did for our family. Levi is at home, would you all continue to pray for him until he is fully recovered? Thanks SO much and MUCH love to you all!!!                                                                                                                                                                    Jachin

Generations Conference 2009 - You gotta be there!!

Generations Conference is just a month away and honestly, It will change your life!!! Last years conference was not only the best conference that I have ever been too (and I have been to alot!!) It was the most impacting for me personally. This year with all that is going on in the world we ALL need answers to some pretty big questions. Like, how do I raise my family so that they fulfill what God has called my children to do? What is God building and what part should I play in the next season of my life? And of course, what is happening in the economy and how do I flourish when the rest of the world is not? Many of these questions will be answered at Generations 2009. You do not want to miss it!!! Special guests include, Paul Scanlon, Charlette Scanlon, Tommy Barnett, David Mainse and Graham Daniels. The Conference is held April 1-4 at Word of Life Church, I will be leading worship with a incredible team. See you there!!!

Worship Music for NOW!!

Have you ever looked back on a old picture that was maybe even just a few years old and said “Wow, that looks old”. Or you find yourself sitting at the mall and some old song comes on and you find yourself grooving to something that is “Just not cool anymore”. It is funny how the Old songs bring you back to memories and emotions of a time and a place that usually you don’t remember, until you hear the song. The only difference is that we can’t go back if we want to write what is for today. So I often ask myself the question after 16 years of writing, “what song is for the next season?” What is the song for the next season of my life and the next season of the Church? It is a question that cannot be answered until the song comes and often it comes before the next season. Before the World Crisis hit the planet late last year I wrote a song called “Set On You” that I am sure will be on my next Album. It is a simple song that proclaims our full trust and hope in our savior. It is exactly what I have needed and what my church has needed to sing in this season. You see, a song is a powerful weapon, especially the song of the NOW!!! I think that it is a good Idea to sing worship songs of the past and present but we can’t forget to sing the songs that God gives for the NOW!! For THIS time, and THIS season!! Maybe a few years down the road that song of NOW will hit you again and you can be thankful for a season that God brought you through!!

I Once Was A Humbug!!!

Well, as it has been every year since Becca and I have been married that the Christmas tree and all the home Christmas decorations went up the day after Halloween, November 1 (which happens to be my Birthday). It’s not that I have EVER wanted them up that early but my wife LOVES Christmas!! I happen to be a little bit of a humbug, a little bit of a scrooge and it’s not that I haven’t enjoyed Christmas, It just seems to be the never ending season of RED and GREEN and songs about Santa and Frosty and other made up Characters that are melodically annoying. I like most of the ones about Jesus, the true meaning of Christmas. Well, this year I decided that I needed to change. I needed to enjoy Christmas and let my family have the best Christmas ever so I went to the store bought Becca one of those RED Christmas plants with a note that said I wouldn’t be a humbug anymore, made the gingerbread house with the kids and watched Frosty the Snowman with Ava last night. You know the old saying “If you can’t beat them, Join them” Well…..I’m in!!! For me this year for me has truly been INCREDIBLE!! Family life has never been better for Becca and I and the kids. I have had the opportunity of traveling Canada and many parts of the world, I have gone on a great vacation with my family and my home church is amazing and growing like never before. I am a blessed man!! God has blessed me!!! I have alot to thank God for and I might as well put aside a few things that I don’t necessarily like about Christmas and jump in on the JOY side of Christmas life!! So Jump on the Jolly Josh Groban bandwagon with me and have the best Christmas EVER!!!

Home, Ordained and Nominated

Hi everyone! My wife Becca, and my Beautiful children Levi and Ava Grace just returned from a wonderful vacation in Florida. Yes, we barely missed all the crazy hurricanes but had great weather and and a great time. My favorite day was Ava’s third Birthday. I got to take her to downtown disney and buy her the princess dress of her choice and then take her to the magic kingdom’s Cinderella castle for lunch with Cinderella and all the disney princesses. What a blast!!! She was GLOWING but I still don’t know who enjoyed it more, her or me and Becca. Levi was just big enough to go on the “Big boy rides”, so we got to enjoy Splash mountain, thunder mountain and all the other rides together. It was very cool!!! After a long year of writing and producing “Open”, touring across Canada and traveling around the world to Australia, Japan and the Philippines, it was a well deserved amazing family time. When I got home I was honored to be officially ordained into the ministry by Pastor Mel Davis and my Father Mel Mullen. I was Ordained along with friends and fellow ministers of the gospel, Ryan Cook, Melissa Furst, Melanie Mitchel and Bryce Birmingham. It was an honor and I was very moved by the response of our church family that I love so much. Today I found out that “Open” was nominated for 3 GMA (Gospel Music Association) awards for Praise and Worship song of the year, Praise and Worship Album of the year and Music DVD of the year. So it has been an adventurous, and Awesome week. I am sure the Journey to come will be lots of work, very rewarding and lots of fun.

Incredible trip to Japan and the Philippines

It is great to be home with my wife Becca and our Beautiful kids, Levi and Ava Grace. To me there is nothing more fun than coming home with gifts for my family. Levi has been running around the house like a crazy Ninja in his new Samari outfit and my baby girl Ava just wants hugs from Daddy in her new Japanise clothes. Becca is the most amazing supportive wife to allow me to do what God puts on my heart. I am so greatful. Leaving home is one of the toughest things for me to do but God gives us all the grace we need to serve Him faithfully. Last year when I was in Australia I felt the Lord speak to me and say “I’m going to send you back to the Philippines”. I wasn’t sure if it was just in my mind or maybe it was just a desire that I had so, I asked the Lord to confirm His word to me if this was really his voice. That night I was at Hillsong Conference and they decided to anoint everyone with oil in the whole stadium of twenty some thousand people. I usually am careful to to be apart of such a mass anointing service but I was personally asked to be apart so I thought I would do my best to be a blessing. Shortly after I was prayed for I was given a cup of oil and escorted to a section of the stadium to pray for some people. When I got there it was a section full of people from the Philippines. I began to weep as I was praying simply because God had confirmed His word. I was in awe that “God would speak to me”. So I told the Lord that I would be obedient and go at the first opportunity. When Pastor Aki and Marge Mizuno called me to come to Japan, I was deeply honored and I also remembered the vow I made to the Lord. So I made the Journey to the other side of the world on 08/08/08. The ultimate day of new beginnings. It was the day the olympics began in China, a new day for China and the entire world. I was stoked as I landed in the beautiful city of Hong Kong. As I arrived in the Philippines I was greated by our dear friends Pastors Jonathan and Vicky Sabastian. They have an AMAZING church in Manilla and many churches in the Philippines and around the world. Pastor Jonathan and Vicky are very close friends to my parents and I have been close to there boys Hans and Josh. It was great to see them all. That night I was apart of a large youth gathering in there church. And I also had the privilege to preach at there church on sunday. Over 100 people gave there lives to Christ during those meetings!!! Praise God!! On the Saturday I had the privilege of doing a music clinic at Victory Church in Manilla. It is a church of over 28000 believers. Pastor Steve Murrell and Pastor Manny Carlos have been great friends of my father for many years as well. They asked me to do a clinic on developing a worship culture in a church. About 400 musicians, worship leaders and songwriters were there. This was right up my alley!! I LOVED imparting on this subject. At the end of the service the place was filled with the High praises of Gods people. I also got to meet with some of the staff in the church and we talked about there kids and how my parents raised me. There was many questions and many very cool answers that I know really helped the pastors there. Sunday night I got to hang out with my good friend Hans. What a awesome guy and we have so much in common. Monday I was off to Japan. Japan is so cool!! The roads are like video games, there phones and cameras are so cool and there cars are so compact. It is amazing!!! I loved the food there except the crab cake that I had that was a bit weird. Eric Boseman from El Paso and Chris Doucette from Vancouver met me there. It was so fun to play some great music with some good friends. I was very curious how it was going to work leading a Japanise congregation in english would be, but it was amazing!! The people there LOVE to Worship. I learned alot about a soft and tender heart from the Japanise people. We basically lead worship and preached at a summer camp for Pastor Aki’s group of churches. What an honor. I have to thank pastor Yasuhiko for serving us so well and making us feel so apart of what God was doing. He is my best friend in Japan. Sunday we got to do three services, One in Japanise, one english and one youth service. I LOVE the youth of Japan. What a future they have.  Well that is the very short version of my trip, thanks for your prayers and support. If you want to hear more I will be speaking at Word of Life Red Deer on Sunday August 24. Blessings to you all!!

Getting Ready For a Big Trip!!!

Hi Everyone!!! It’s been a while since I have written in and just let you know what has been going on. The last few weeks have been CRAZY and AMAZING!!! My Dad and I and some good friends went to the “Hillsong Conference” in Sydney Australia. It was Amazing!!! It was great to see how God is working on the other side of the world. I met with many pastors while I was there and it was really encouraging to see that the churches are alive, growing peoples lives are being ever changed by the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I also had the privilege of meeting with Darlene Czech, Joel Houston, Rueben Morgan and many other members of the Hillsong team. What a blessing they all are! So authentic and real!  As soon as I came home we went right into our Friendships for life conference with John and Lisa Bevere. It was an AMAZING and FUN weekend. I have never heard our church be that loud in there praise and worship and that is saying alot for our church. You can tell that there is a real hunger for God rising up in Canada!! It is so good to see. John and Lisa really bring incredible, solid teaching to the body of Christ. They are real and honest. Being around them is like being in the rocky mountains….just so refreshing!!! They have become such great friends to our church. We love them very much! In less than 2 weeks I go to the Philippines and Japan. I am so excited!!! Last year at Hillsong conference I felt the voice of the lord say to me “go back to the Philippines”!!! I did not know what to do with this and I told the lord that I needed confirmation. So that night at the conference they were anointing everyone in the stadium with oil. And my good friend Nick Caine asked me to go and pray for a section of people. As I went they directed me to a section of people ALL from the Philippines!!! I am sure that I got more blessed than anyone that night. I wept and cried for the mere fact that I knew God had spoken. So I told the Lord, “I will go at my first opportunity”.  So when I got the call to go to Japan, I obeyed God to go to the Philippines as well. I will be preaching for 3 days with our longtime friends Jonathan and Vicky Sabastian at Jesus Christ Saves Global Outreach. It is an amazing church in Metro Manilla. Then I will be going to Nagoya, Japan for a week to a worship Conference. I have never been to Japan and I am so excited to see what God will do. Thank you for your continued prayers and support. This is a exciting time in life for Becca and I. All the Glory to God!!!
