Thought By Jachin

Jachin was recently on 100 Huntley Street, Plumline and Generations TV

In the last few weeks I have had the priveledge and opportunity of speaking and singing on National Television. It was an honor to appear Live on Canada’s longest running Christian television show “100 Huntley Street” to sing two songs off of the new “Open” CD/DVD as well as talk about generational churches with my father Mel Mullen. As I was in Burlington at Crossroads it was so obvious to see the generational blessing on the Mainse family. Reynold and Kathy were AMAZING to work with and there passion for the presence of God was evedent. I also had the privilege to be apart of Miracle Channel’s flagship program “Plumbline” with Faisil And Sabina Malick.  Faisil is one of the most interesting people I have met in along time simply because it is rare to see a man with such wisdom and knowledge of the word at such a young age. I was blessed to be a part of what God is doing through Canada’s Leading Television ministries. One of Canada’s New and Best Television shows is “Generations” Television, and I am privileged to be apart of it every single week. It airs thursday nights at 11pm Eastern time on Miracle Channel.  It is edgy, relevant, real and easy to connect with no matter where you are on your walk of faith. One of the songs from the new “Open” project is also part of the “Generations” show. So you gotta check it out and partner with “Generations” as well. Bottom Line is that it is awesome to see great television ministry in Canada. Let’s pray and believe to see God continue to do great things in our nation through media.

Home from Vancouver

It is sooooo good to be home from a week away from my beautiful wife Becca and my kids Levi and Ava Grace. When I was away, I was on the phone with Levi and I asked him to pray for me before we did the concert at Victory Christian Center. He said “No Dad, I will only pray that you get home faster.” It is AWESOME to be so loved.Sometimes I have wondered “Is it really worth it”? And I am sure that we all examine the cost at times but often there is amazing things happening behind the scenes that we don’t often see

Songwriting 101

Lots of people ask me often “How do you write songs”? or “How do you write so many songs”? The answer to that is harder than you may think. I have written many songs but most of the time when I am done writing I honestly say “where did that come from”? I am not smart enough to write some of the things that have come out of me. I failed Grade 1 for heaven’s sake!! Obviously, we must all recognize that amazing songs come through us. They are birthed by the Holy Spirit and genuine times of worship!! I can’t take credit for how God has used my songs to bring people to Him. It is obviously beyond me. That is an important thing to always remember.
When I was in my early 20’s I lived in the basement of one of the best worship/song writers that I have ever met, Tommy Walker. He taught me quickly Songwriting 101 by telling me that “The #1 thing that will stop you from writing is not finishing your songs”. Pretty simple, but very true! As of that day, I determined that I would save and keep every idea and not stop until that idea was polished and completed so that it could be used for God’s glory.  It is very easy to get frustrated with good ideas and throw them in the garbage. I think that sometimes the greatest ideas just take some time to really mature into what they can become. Here’s a few practical hints:
1. Record your songs on a recording device (ex. your computer, a digital recorder, your phone, etc)
2. Keep copies of the written version in a binder or on computer. When I wrote a song called “Take This Life”, it ended up being recorded by Maranatha Music and sang in Promise Keepers stadium events across America. I remember writing the chorus live at a music workshop at my church. It was really cool. We must have sang it for 45 minutes or more. I took it home and wrote a verse but couldn’t find a way to get it back to the chorus. A few months later, looking through my book of unfinished songs, I came upon a lame christmas song called “Glory” it had a great pre-chorus that fit for the song perfectly. I may have never found the right lines if I hadn’t kept them. Many people have been blessed by that simple chorus. So keep your songs, keep writing and finish what you write. I will have Song-Writing 102 up in a few days.
Blessings, Jachin

Thoughts while we are on tour in Vancouver

Hi everyone!!! I just want to say a quick thanks to everyone for your support in the last few months. It has been a crazy, awesome step out in faith experience for Becca and I. We REALLY appreciate the prayer, love and support of friends close and around the world. I am really missing Becca, Levi and Ava Grace but God is giving us all strength for what he has called us to do. It has been so cool to travel across this most beautiful country singing of the goodness of God and doing our best to be a blessing to the church at large. This morning I woke up to this scripture that encouraged me to continue to pursue excellence in music, art and publishing the good news of Jesus Christ.
1 Ch 16 - 23 Sing to God, everyone and everything! Get out his salvation news every day!24 Publish his glory among the godless nations, his wonders to all races and religions.25 And why? Because God is great - well worth praising! (MSG)
In Canada there is a need for all of us to “Publish” with excellence the Word of God in creative ways. God has given Canadians a global platform because we are received abroad with amazing respect. And hey, Canada needs Canadians too! The world is waiting for the sights and sounds of voices and art that reflect the glory of God. There are incredible gifts in Canada that need our full support and encouragement to begin to write, paint or play. And when a project is complete, let’s fully get behind it. As I look back in life there are MANY people who encouraged me to take steps of faith along the way that enabled my faith to be stretched to this point. I am so thankful for that.  I remember friends that encouraged me when I was playing 3 chord songs on a keyboard, just praying I wouldn’t hit a wrong note. At that time, that was HUGE for me. I vividly remember my good friend Tommy saying “you should write songs”. And that day changed my life forever. Now, these songs are sung in churches around the planet. Really that is the power and beauty of the church. If it wasn’t for such a awesome community of people that encouraged and supported me through the years, I would not have written a single song, preached a message or made a single CD. Now we have a whole new generation of young people to push towards their destiny with encouragement, words of wisdom and a giant SMILE.  Have a great day and be “Open” to who you could encourage today. Blessings, Jachin

What I’m living for

What am I living for? What a question Eh? (I needed to put the ”Eh” in there for my American friends) Very few of these deep internal questions seem to get answered in life. I remember this question was answered for me when my beautiful wife Becca and I decided what our life scripture was going to be, before we got married.

We were trying to answer the question “What are we going to live for”. We read many scriptures including the 1 Corinthians 13 passage that people often use as their wedding scripture. We also considered the bone of my bone and fle (more…)
